FREEPORT, MAINE ON AMTRAK DOWNEASTER
Hello my friends,
I hope you all are enjoying the festive season and the long weekend. I can’t imagine Christmas without snow and I clearly remember my first snow in this country around 15 years ago – aah, the days!
I was with my girl friend and we literally went crazy outside without any snow gear 🙂
Back then, we used to travel mostly by either walking or by train – which I used to absolutely cherish. Traveling in train now a days is so much easier then actually driving and sitting in the traffic and not being able to do anything except listening to music.
This time we selected Amtrak Downeaster train to travel to Maine for a day trip. It was the most fun experience for me and my family. Avy (my son) was super excited when he heard about a trip to Maine by train (and it rhymes too!!). Amtrak was so convenient – the seats, long windows and especially the cafe was amazing. We decided on going to Freeport, Maine which is a beautiful small town. We had dinner at a local greek place, Mediterranean Grill restaurant followed by dessert and coffee at Isabella’s Cafe and Bakery. This town is laced with outlet shops on either side of the street, stone throw distance from the train station, which to me is a super convenient for anyone who wants to travel for shopping without having to drive or deal with traffic.
We also visited the L.L.Bean outlet where they also had a buggy ride for kids, which was fun in the Christmas lights.
In short, a trip with no hassle of driving or find parking. A full on fun day spent with the family undivided. Not to mention, it allowed us to be honest with ourselves with time!
